Jarrow QH-absorb review
Is Jarrow CoQ10 Good? What the QH-absorb Label Says, Line by Line
Jarrow gets the form of CoQ10 right: ubiquinol, the ready-to-use form. The oil and the extras are where it falls short.

Jarrow CoQ10 gets the most important word right. Its softgels, sold as QH-absorb, hold ubiquinol, the ready-to-use form of CoQ10.
It comes up short further down the label. The CoQ10 is dissolved in MCT oil, a refined oil, not in olive oil.
If CoQ10 is new to you, start here. CoQ10, short for coenzyme Q10, is something your own body makes. Your cells use it to turn food into energy.
Many people take a statin, a daily pill for cholesterol. A statin works on the same chain of steps your body uses to make CoQ10. Blood CoQ10 goes down on a statin, and that has been measured.
A statin also blocks a building block called GG. Jarrow's label has no GG line.
So a lot of people on a statin add a CoQ10 bottle. Jarrow is one of the names they find.
The two QH-absorb bottles you'll see most differ in one way: how much CoQ10 sits in each softgel. The rest of the label is the same on both.
This page reads that label with you, one line at a time. Then it puts both Jarrow bottles next to three others, read the same way. One is EQ10, a CoQ10 made for people on a statin.
Five lines to read
Where the answers sit on a Jarrow bottle
On the back of a Jarrow bottle is a box with a black border, headed Supplement Facts. It lists what's in one softgel, and how much.
Right under that box is a line that starts with Other ingredients. It lists everything else in the softgel.
The five checks all sit in those two places. Each one gets its own short section below, with where to find it.
Check 1 of 5 · Form
Which kind of CoQ10 is in QH-absorb
Form
CoQ10 comes in two forms. Ubiquinol is the ready-to-use form. It's the form your blood already carries.
Ubiquinone is the older form. Your body has to change it into ubiquinol first.
Many popular bottles hold ubiquinone. The front rarely tells you which form is inside.
Jarrow is clear about it. Its label prints the words Kaneka Ubiquinol. Kaneka is the Japanese company that made the first ubiquinol.
If you pick a CoQ10 to take every day, pick the form your blood already carries. Both Jarrow bottles do.
Find the line that starts with Coenzyme Q10, or with Ubiquinol. The word ubiquinol meets this check.
If the label says ubiquinone, or just Coenzyme Q10 with no form named, it's the older form.
Check 2 of 5 · Dose
How much CoQ10 sits in one Jarrow softgel

Dose
The dose is how much CoQ10 you get. It's written in mg, short for milligrams.
On a Jarrow bottle, that number tells you the amount in one softgel. It isn't the whole bottle, and it isn't always a day's worth.
This check asks for 200 mg or more in one softgel. Then one softgel a day gets you there.
200 mg a day is the amount used in many CoQ10 studies. That includes studies of people on a statin.
Jarrow sells QH-absorb in more than one strength. The 200 mg softgel meets this check.
The 100 mg softgel doesn't. Two of them add up to the same amount, but this check is about getting it all in one softgel. One a day is easier to keep up.
Read Serving size first. If it says 1 softgel, the mg on the CoQ10 line is what one softgel holds.
If it says 2 softgels, one softgel holds half of that number.
Check 3 of 5 · Carrier
What the CoQ10 in Jarrow is dissolved in

Carrier
CoQ10 is a lot like butter. It dissolves in fat, not in water.
So a good softgel holds the CoQ10 already dissolved in an oil. That oil is called the carrier.
Your body takes CoQ10 in best when there's fat around it. In head-to-head studies, the dry powder capsule came last. CoQ10 in oil came first.
Not every oil gets the same mark, though. The ✓ goes to olive oil, the simple kitchen oil you already know.
Jarrow uses MCT oil, short for medium-chain triglycerides. It's a refined oil.
It still carries the CoQ10. So Jarrow gets the ! mark here, which means close, but not quite.
Take any CoQ10 in the morning, with food. The food adds a little more fat.
Find the first ingredient under Other ingredients. On both Jarrow bottles, it reads medium chain triglyceride.
Olive oil meets this check. Another named oil, like MCT oil or sunflower oil, gets the ! mark. No oil at all is a miss.
Check 4 of 5 · GG
GG, the line missing from both Jarrow labels

GG
GG is short for geranylgeraniol. It's a building block your body makes on the same pathway as CoQ10.
A pathway is a chain of steps inside your cells. GG comes from the same pathway, the branch that isn't CoQ10.
A statin is a pill people often take every day, for years. It does its job on cholesterol.
A statin turns that whole pathway down. CoQ10 is one of the things made on it, and GG is another.
Most CoQ10 bottles, Jarrow's too, only put CoQ10 back. EQ10 adds GG back as well.
The idea: refill and restart, not just refill. In other words, put back both CoQ10 and GG, not only CoQ10.
For someone on a statin, this is the check that sets bottles apart. EQ10 is made to take alongside a statin, and you keep taking your statin as usual.
Look right under the CoQ10 line in the Supplement Facts box. GG gets a line of its own, called geranylgeraniol or GG, with an amount next to it.
Neither Jarrow bottle has that line. No line means no GG.
Check 5 of 5 · Clean label
What else is in a Jarrow softgel
Clean label
Under the Supplement Facts box, a line starts with Other ingredients. It lists the shell, the oil and anything added to help the factory.
Gelatin, glycerin and water are fine. They're what a softgel shell is made of.
You'll take this every day, maybe for years. So a short list, where each part has a reason to be there, is the one to want.
Some words shouldn't be on it. No palm oil and no soybean oil. No polysorbate 80, a man-made additive that helps oil and water mix.
No soy lecithin, a soy-based additive. No titanium dioxide, a white coloring. And nothing bioengineered, the word US labels use for genetically modified.
No added vitamin E either. That's vitamin E with its own line and a % Daily Value, the share of a day's need in one softgel. A CoQ10 doesn't need a vitamin dose on top.
Some extras aren't on this list, but a softgel doesn't need them either. They get the ! mark, which means close, but not quite.
Read the whole Other ingredients line. If none of those words is on it, the bottle gets a ✓.
Jarrow's line has none of them. It does add caramel, a coloring, and sunflower lecithin, an additive made from sunflowers that helps things mix.
It also has mixed tocopherols, a little vitamin E that keeps the oil fresh. The label gives it no % Daily Value, so it isn't added vitamin E.
Caramel and sunflower lecithin aren't on the list above. They're still extras, so Jarrow gets the ! mark: close, but not quite.

Side by side
Both Jarrow bottles, next to three others
Here are all five bottles side by side, read from their back labels. EQ10 comes first, in the amber column. Each column head shows how many of the five checks that bottle meets.
NOW Extra Strength and Qunol Extra Strength hold Kaneka ubiquinol too. So every bottle here starts with the right form. The oil, the dose and the other lines decide the rest.
Bottles that meet the same number of checks are in no particular order.

Jarrow QH-absorb 200 mg2/5 checks metThe bigger Jarrow names Kaneka ubiquinol right on the label, and one softgel a day meets the Dose check. Its oil is MCT oil. The list adds caramel and sunflower lecithin, and there's no GG.
Qunol Ubiquinol Extra Strength 200 mg2/5 checks metQunol's Extra Strength holds Kaneka ubiquinol, and one softgel a day meets the Dose check. The oil is MCT oil. The list adds sunflower lecithin, and there's no GG.

Inside EQ10
Inside one EQ10 softgel
Jarrow and EQ10 start in the same place. Both use Kaneka ubiquinol, the ready-to-use form.
The difference is what comes with it. Here is the whole EQ10 label.
Supplement Facts
Serving size: 1 softgel
Amount per serving% Daily Value

Trans-geranylgeraniol, GG60 mg †
† Daily Value not established.
Other ingredients: olive oil, the fat-soluble carrier; gelatin; glycerin; purified water; ascorbyl palmitate, an antioxidant.
Ubiquinol, 200 mg
The first line is ubiquinol, the ready-to-use form of CoQ10. It's made by Kaneka, the same maker Jarrow names.
One softgel holds 200 mg. So one a day meets the Dose check.
GG, 60 mg
The second line is GG, short for geranylgeraniol. It's the building block a statin also blocks. EQ10 adds it back.
The idea: refill and restart, not just refill.
Olive oil, and a short list
Olive oil comes first under Other ingredients. It's the carrier, the oil the CoQ10 and GG are dissolved in.
Then gelatin, glycerin and purified water, which make the softgel shell. Last is ascorbyl palmitate, a form of vitamin C that keeps the oil fresh.
Nothing else is on the label. Here is what it leaves out.
- No caramel
- No lecithin
- No palm oil
- No soybean oil
You take one small softgel a day, in the morning with food. Blood levels take about two weeks to settle. It's made to take every day, for months, not days.
If you take a statin, EQ10 is made to take alongside it. You keep taking your statin as usual.
Answers
Jarrow CoQ10, answered
Is Jarrow CoQ10 good?
On the form, yes. QH-absorb holds Kaneka ubiquinol, the ready-to-use form.
It's dissolved in MCT oil rather than olive oil. It has no GG, the building block a statin also blocks. The bigger Jarrow softgel meets two checks: the form and the dose.
Is Jarrow QH-absorb ubiquinol or ubiquinone?
It's ubiquinol, the ready-to-use form. The label names Kaneka, the Japanese company that made the first ubiquinol.
What's in Jarrow CoQ10 besides the CoQ10?
MCT oil comes first. Then gelatin, glycerin and water for the shell.
The rest are caramel, carob extract, sunflower lecithin, beeswax, rosemary extract, mixed tocopherols and ascorbyl palmitate. That's eleven ingredients in all.
Mixed tocopherols are a form of vitamin E, used in a small amount to keep the oil fresh. The label gives it no % Daily Value, so it isn't the added vitamin E the Clean label check means.
Should I get Jarrow 100 mg or 200 mg?
For one softgel a day, the 200 mg.
Two of the smaller softgels add up to the same amount. The Dose check is about getting it all in one softgel, which is easier to keep up.
Is there a CoQ10 like Jarrow, but with GG?
EQ10 starts the same way, with Kaneka ubiquinol. It's dissolved in olive oil. And it adds GG, the building block a statin also blocks.
EQ10 is made to take alongside a statin. You keep taking your statin as usual.
In short
Both Jarrow labels, in short
Both Jarrow bottles get the form right. On this page, the four bottles next to EQ10 met one to three checks each.
EQ10 met all five:
- Form: ubiquinol, the ready-to-use form
- Dose: 200 mg in one softgel
- Carrier: olive oil
- GG: 60 mg, the building block a statin also blocks
- Clean label: a short list, with none of the words from check 5
For someone on a statin, the GG line is what sets it apart.
